A litle of this & that

It's time for the Hodgepodge.  Are you ready?   Let's go.
1. ASAP typically stands for 'as soon as possible'. What else could it stand for in your life right now?
Always smile and praise!
2. Are you the last person to speak up in a group or the first to have an idea? Why do you suppose that is? Is it a good thing or no?
I tend to speak up. Maybe I'm not the first one to say something, but I will add a comment or an idea if I can.   I know there are times that I should probably just stay quiet when I don't.  But, I'm working on it.

3. What do you remember best about being 12?
When I was 12 years old I was living in Cleveland Heights, Ohio.  If I think back and remember properly, and do the the math right (not always my forte), I was in the 7th grade and it was the year I went to St. John's Lutheran School.   I only went there one year.  My parents didn't want to send me to the big local public junior high because it was pretty rough at the time.   Some of my friends from my elementary school also went to the Lutheran school so that helped with the transition.

Three things I remember from that year:  Sandy Suppes and I did a flute duet at the band concert.   I think it went well, and I remember my mom being proud of me.   I was a 7th grade cheerleader.  This was a small school so I am not even sure if I had to try out to become one.  ha!   And, last - but perhaps most interesting:  I remember playing 'spin the bottle' - sitting in a circle with boys and girls from my class!  Where were we?  I want to say we were at school!  Where were the adults??   ha!  That I don't remember!
4. January 18th is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Which character do you relate to the most, and why? If you're stumped go here for inspiration.
I went to the site and took the quiz.  My result:  Rabbit.   It said that I am high strung when it comes to camping (very true!!), and I that I am a homebody.  I have a keen sense of danger - but, my friends listen to me for advice.   Probably because I'm thinking of every bad thing that might happen!

I think that sums me up!   Camping and me do not mix.  In fact I was a Girl Scout leader for a few years when my girls were in elementary school. I volunteered for the job, and enjoyed it, BUT I said from the git go that I was not going to take the girls camping. I told their moms if they wanted to take them, that would be fine - but I was not going to be there!  ha
5. What's an app you use that helps simplify or make life easier for you in some way?
It took me awhile to get into using it, but I now use the Calendar app.  I like that I can set reminders too.  Repeating events, etc.    I share the calendar with my hubby - so he can see what is on my calendar and I can see his. We are not being nosy.... seriously.   It has been helpful to both of us!
6. San Francisco (CA), San Diego (CA), San Juan (PR) San Antonio (TX) Sanibel (FL)...you have an all expenses paid long weekend to one of these destinations. Which one do you choose and why?
Of the "San" cities listed above, I would take that all expenses paid trip to San Antonio, Texas.  I have never been there but I know it is interesting in it's history and architecture. In fact, I have not spent time in Texas at all.  I've just been in airports, and once I took a bus ride to a cruise ship from the airport board at the port of Houston.   That was NOT a very pretty ride! ha

PS: I lived in the San Francisco area and that's why I didn't pick it.  But, it's a wonderful place to visit!  I have also vacationed in San Diego.

7. Share with us a song that makes you feel nostalgic? For what?
Nostalgic?  It's easy to think of a song that brings up a memory of times past.  But, a song that makes me nostalgic is a bit different.    There are a few songs that when I hear them I think about where I was when I heard it... and who I was with then hearing it.  It gives me a good feeling of that moment.   So, I will say I was fortunate enough to be at the CMA Festival a few years back when Taylor Swift was performing.   She started singing one of her early hit songs called "Tim McGraw"...and out onto the stage walked Tim himself!!   So, then they went into "The Highway Don't Care" - and yes, Keith Urban came out to do his guitar solo live too!  I think it was probably one of the only times the three of them were on stage together performing that song.  I was in awe...and loved every second.  I did not want it to end!   I was with one of my daughters, and her fiance at the time.  It was truly a 'moment in time' that I felt blessed to be a part of experiencing.   That is what I love about live concerts!  Things happen!  Even the artists get emotional.   There is nothing like it.

So, now, yes, every time I hear "The Highway Don't Care" on the radio I am nostalgic to that moment when I was there.
8.  Insert your own random thought here.
My post before this one is meaningful to me. Perhaps it will be to you also. I wrote it yesterday when I was having 'deep thoughts' about our country, our way of thinking, and how I can handle the days that are a coming.   It's all about KINDNESS.    Feel free to read.
Have a great day and week ahead!

  1. I was a cheerleader in 7th grade, too. How about that?! Such fun times! I can only imagine how neat that was to see/hear Taylor Swift, Tim McGraw, and Keith Urban perform together at the CMA Festival. Hopefully, one day, I'll get to experience something like that, too.

  2. I almost just said anything by Taylor Swift as my answer. There is something about her songs that makes me feel nostalgic. Never Grow Up for one and Love Story. I think of my girls belting it out in the backseat of the car when it first came out. She gets a lot of criticism, but I think she has a remarkable way with words. We played the same game in 6th grade : ) Snow days-ha!

  3. Sounds like an epic moment at the CMA festival, what a grand memory! We are campers and I bet we could change your mind about camping. We "Glamp", short for Glamorous Camping. No sleeping bags on the ground or weenies on a stick for us...we set-up a luxury campsite complete with a regular beds fitted with fine linens, heated throws, gourmet campfire meals served on pretty plates (no paper or plastic dinnerware allowed), and every comfort imaginable. Yes, we do look like the Beverly Hillbillies when we arrive with gear stuffed in every nook and cranny and tied on top of our SUV, but it's worth it to enjoy the great outdoors in style and comfort. We've converted many non-campers during our annual group glamping events. I think we could convert you too.
    Cheers!

  4. Marla... you gave me a chuckle when you said that you couldn't get in touch with your girls during The Bachelor and you began to panic. I can identify. When Real Housewives is on and I don't hear from my girls I start serial texting. Enjoy your week.
