A "Super" Hodgepodge!

Here are the questions and my answers.

1. In the USA this coming Sunday millions will be watching as the Baltimore Ravens take on the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.  What was the last event you attended that could be described as super?

In December I went on a whirlwind weekend to Las Vegas and saw Tim McGraw and Faith Hill together in their "Soul To Soul 2" concert series.  It was SUPER in many ways - super time with family, super food, and super hotel - and super-dooper concert by Tim and Faith!

Before that a REALLY super event I attended  - twice now (and I am going again this June) is the CMA Music Festival in Nashville.  Yes, it's SUPER fantastic!!!

2. Share something you're a fan of these days?

Besides my on-going love for my family, my friends, my church,  country music, and this beautiful area where I live - I am a fan of football!  This Sunday is the last game of the season - and it makes me a little sad to have football be over for awhile.  I prefer SEC college football but I like watching the pros play too.  After this Sunday I will have to wait until the end of August for the excitment to start up again.  ) :

3. How do you feel about wings (the edible appetizer kind)?  What is your preferred seasoning: hot, mild, teriyiaki, sweet & sour, other?  Do you make your own or is there a favorite place you like to go for wings?

I do enjoy wings I just don't eat them often.  Yes, they are definitely yummy to gnaw on...and it takes a while to munch away before getting full, I just prefer other "game day food".   I have never baked my own wings.  We have a restaurant/bar just five minutes from us called "Carolina Wings" so I could get them there.  But, I never had.  Everytime I have eaten at "Carolina Wings" I have ordered something else!  Go figure.

4. As long as we're talking sports today... have you followed the Lance Armstrong story?  Did you watch his interview with Oprah and if so, what was your reaction to his confession and his subsequent remarks?

I have been very aware of the whole illegal doping problem in the competitive bicyling world, and I know about Lance Armstrong in particular.  I did watch both nights of Oprah's interview with Lance.   My thoughts?  I think Lance had no moral delimna going on in his head when he was doping...and was/is only sad that he got caught and had to give up his titles and leave his own foundation.  Had he been able to get away with it, he would have continued to "live the lie" and been fine.  Yes, he's remorseful now. And, yes, he has God and his family & friends to answer to, to say he is sorry and to ask for forgiveness.  I hope everything he has gone through has made him a "freer" man, and maybe one day it will make him a happier man.   I don't know though.

5. What's a question you hate to be asked?

What is your job?       I have struggled with that question ever since I left the "business world" and left working outside the home...and that was a long, long, long time ago.  I always feel myself trying to come up with an answer that sounds like what I do is "good enough" and I know it's my own shortcoming.  I should be proud of my years as a mother to my daughters (and I am very proud of them!!), and I should be proud of the ways I spend my days now, volunteering and enjoying life.   But I still worry what people think of me and I worry that I don't make a difference in the world.

6.  The coaches in Sunday's big game happen to be real life brothers.  Jim Harbaugh coaches the 49ers and his brother John coaches the Baltimore Ravens.  Were you and your sibling(s) competitive? In what way?  Are you still?

First, let me say I think it's pretty cool that two brothers are coaching the top two teams this year!  It's another wonderful football family, like the Mannings!    I don't feel my siblings and I were competitive when we were growing up.  My sister is 5 years older so she and I were always in different schools, and had different friends and interests.  My brother is 3 years older, and being different sexes we had different interests too.   I have never felt like I had to compete to win our parents attention - or to succeed in something I liked.   I will say though, that even after all these years I still feel my "birth order" and feel like the baby...which is both good and bad.

7. What's your favorite game involving a ball and when did you last play?

My favorite game to watch is definitely football!  My favorite game to play is golf, even though I'm not good at it.  I played a week ago Thursday, and I am going out later today to play again.  I don't expect a great score but I enjoy being outdoors, and getting a bit of exercise.

8. My random thought for this week:

January went by fast....yeah!  I'm not a big fan of January and February.  I like warm weather, and even though this past January has been an unseasonably nice one, I still count the days until we get consistent warm days!

I'd love to hear your responses about the game questions above, and what you find SUPER in your life!  So, send me a note.  Oh, and who are you rooting for on Sunday?   I'm hoping the Ravens win.  I used to live in Baltimore and have a warm spot in my heart for "Charm City".  I watched a piece on Ray Lewis last night and the guy is too cocky for me, but I know he would love to go out with a big Super Bowl win.   Most of all, I want an exciting game to watch!  And clever commercials too!!!    Do you think Beyonce will lip-sync at halftime?  How could she possibly after the huge bruhaha over lip-syncing at the inauguration?!?!

  1. I'm always a little sad when football season ends too. I am not a fan of pro basketballl, but will watch some of the college March Madness.

I think Beyonce will likely lip synch some and I don't think its a big deal to do that at the Superbowl because she'll be dancing, etc. I do think it was a much bigger deal at the Inauguration when its the National Anthem and you're just standing there and other performers sang live. Anyway, I thought the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir was the best part of the Inauguration entertainment-they were amazing!

    Go Ravens!!

  3. That sounds like an amazing concert!!! And in regards to #5... you are making the biggest difference in the world that you could possibly make by being full-time mom to your girls. Don't let anyone tell you different or make you feel like you aren't "pulling your weight" by staying home. Your girls are only little once...

  4. That totally cracks me up that you and I both mentioned Tim! Just remember...he's MINE, all MINE! ;) I can completely relate to your answer to #5. I've been a stay-at-home mom for 21 years now and I've never regretted it. However, I do worry that I'm not making more of a difference in this world. With my youngest graduating from high school in a couple of years, perhaps it's time I get that figured out.

  5. The next time someone asks "What you do?" just tell them you are a Domestic Goddess. They are so stunned they don't have a come back.
