Back at it... it's Hodgepodge time.

Hello Hodgepodgers!  I missed a week while I was away visiting family.  It's good to be back.  Here are this week's questions with my answers.

1.  On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your summer so far? Why?
(1=eh and 10=best summer ever)

I give it an 8.  I love summer in general and this one has been full of celebrations so far... birthdays, the 4th of July, and our family week together.

I have not gone to summer concerts like I sometimes do (well, except for the CMA Fest in early June... and that is my favorite event!) I miss seeing some of the shows at the outdoor amplitheatres. Thankfully, I am meeting up with my daughter and her boyfriend to see Keith Urban next month.  I'm definitely looking forward to that night!

2. July 26th is National Aunts and Uncles Day. Did you have many aunts and uncles growing up? Were you especially close to any one or maybe all of them? Are you an aunt? (or uncle for the men who join here on Wednesdays) Share a favorite memory relating to one of your own aunts or uncles or relating to a niece or nephew who call you Aunt (or Uncle).

Yes, I have/had a few aunts and uncles growing up.  Was I especially close to one or several?  Well, not really.  I think it was because we didn't live close by to one another.  We only got to see them on some holidays and occasional vacations - and then it was in a group setting.

There were one or two I think I related to more than some of the others.  I will say that my mother's sister, my Aunt Susie, was someone who I felt was always sweet and caring.  I rarely get to see her anymore, but I am Facebook friends - and although she doesn't put much up there, I get to occasionally see a picture or comment.  She is still lovely.   I wish we were in better contact.

I am proudly an aunt!  I love being an aunt AND a great aunt!
3. What's your favorite food dipped in chocolate? What's your favorite food dipped in cheese?

I will say that strawberries and pineapple dipped in chocolate are my favorites!  What a great way to eat fruit!  ha!
4. When were you last astonished by something? Explain.

Astonished?  It can mean surprised in a good way OR a bad way I suppose.    Astonished in a good way:  by those who give freely without wanting anything in return.   Anonymous donors amaze me with their generosity.    Astonished in a bad way:   politics.
5. Surf board, paddle board, ironing board, Pinterest board, score board, clip board, bulletin board...which board have you most recently encountered?

I was just on Pinterest yesterday pinning ideas to my board for the house we close on this Friday!  We plan to do some updating inside it, so I have been searching for color ideas, and lighting choices.
6. What's your favorite story from scripture? Why that story?

Only one story?   I assume our Hodgepodge leader wants us to think beyond the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus.   I mean - that IS the BEST story ever.
But, let's see....   how about John leaping in his mother's womb just by the presence of Jesus (in Mary's womb?)   Or, how about the very first miracle:  Jesus turning the water into wine at the wedding - I like my wine!  ha     And, of course,  the story of Jesus going to the woman at the well... an 'unclean' woman, scorned by most, working in the hot sun.  He approaches her and speaks with her... and doesn't care that she was of low status.  Just one of his many examples of loving those who many looked down upon.
7. If you were to travel from the east coast to the west coast in your own country, which five cities would you most want to see?

East to west....

Philadelphia - to see my friend Sue
Cleveland area - to see family
Chicago - to visit my friends the Lyles
Rolla, Missouri - to see my aunt I mentioned above.
San Francisco area - to return to the places we lived, where both our daughters we born.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

I hope everyone is staying cool in the heat, and making the most of summer! I can't believe it is unofficially halfway over.  Schools start in less than a month in many places. Crazy!!   I really wish summers would slowdown...and winters speed up! ha

Take care!

  1. My teacher daughter goes back on the 9th, but has already been in setting up her classroom. When people talk about teachers having the summer off I think they don't know what it's like to be a teacher in this decade. I guess once upon a time they had more of a summer holiday, but most now take classes, continuing ed, and work on their plans for the new school year all summer long. I've been reminding my west coast daughter about the humidity here. She's coming for a visit and is so excited for hot weather. She's been wearing jeans and a fleece out there. Have a great day!

  6. My teacher daughter has been working away in her classroom but they don't go back until the 9th. I'm looking forward to not going back this year. LOL But I will miss my friends at school dearly. The summer heat this year seems so much worse than the last couple of years. Or maybe I say that every year? LOL Have a great weekend!
